What to Wear to an Acting Audition

Monday, October 10th, 2011

Having landed yourself a few acting auditions but not managed to get the part, it might be time to ask yourself if it’s more than your acting talent you need to work on. What you wear to an audition can affect your chance of getting the part as much as your acting ability and can give casting directors and producers completely the wrong idea of you if you don’t get it quite right. When deciding what to wear for acting casting calls you should try and match the outfit to the character you are auditioning for. Unless you’re auditioning for the part of a tramp or down and out, aim to dress reasonably smartly and be generally well presented. Theatre jobs may be auditioned in the theatre itself and so could be fairly dark – therefore, wearing black isn’t the best idea unless asked to do so. Keep jewellery to a minimum so it doesn’t jangle or get caught on anything as you move around and become a distraction. Likewise, ‘out there’ patterns or designs may detract from your audition content but too plain clothing will make you forgettable so aim for a happy medium. For a greater chance of getting that audition, our subscription service will let you know where and when the best auditions are taking place in the acting world. You will receive a maximum of three texts a week, charged at £1.50 each, but please make sure that you are 18 or over before subscribing.

How to Impress at a Modelling Audition

Sunday, October 9th, 2011

When trying to become a model professionally, the route can be paved with obstacles and rejection. One of the best tips we can give you here at Audtion Now is to get as much information as you can so that you are fully prepared. As well as sending you text alerts (a maximum of three a week at £1.50 each) as part of our over 18s subscription service to let you know when model auditions are taking place, we also hold workshops to give you advice and support in order to achieve your dream. When you attend modelling auditions you will need to take a portfolio with you. Think of this as a model’s version of a CV so show what you can do. If you haven’t had any experience so far, you will need to hire a professional photographer to take your first photos for you in order to put together your portfolio. If you have quite a bit of experience, think carefully about which pictures you include for your portfolio. You don’t have to include every picture that’s ever been taken, but if you have worked on some major projects try to get these ones in as they will impress. At your audition, you will also need to make sure you look as good as your pictures. This doesn’t mean doing yourself up to the nines, but rather making sure you look after yourself before any auditions so that your skin and hair are in perfect condition.

How to Impress at a Musical Audition

Saturday, October 8th, 2011

Now The X Factor is back on our screens, it is easy to sit at home commenting on how you could do better. However, anyone who as ever attended musical auditions will know that getting it right isn’t as easy as it looks. Whatever the kind of auditions you go for, it is not just about the quality of your voice. Your choice of song is a major consideration and can affect how well or how badly your audition goes. If you choose a song that is new to you then you won’t sing it with the same conviction as one you know well, and you may even forget your lines. If you have been supplied with a list of songs to choose from, always pick the one that you know best but that also matches your vocal range and that will show it off. When attending auditions for the West End or other musicals, you may be waiting around for a long time. Therefore, where possible keep your audition outfit ready to change into before you perform. Wear something comfortable without being sloppy or too relaxed. Also, wear shoes that you can walk in and clothes that won’t restrict your breathing or your ability to sing. Always remember that while you are not being judged on your clothing, first impressions do count. Audition Now is a service for over 18s which will let you know when auditions are taking place by sending you a maximum of 3 texts a week at £1.50 each.

Get Yourself Noticed at the Dance Audition

Friday, October 7th, 2011

If you wish to become a professional dancer then you must be prepared to put in a lot of hard work. Unlike some other professions in the showbiz industry, dancing is extremely demanding both physically and mentally. You need to have a great deal of motivation, in order to keep yourself going between jobs as it is unlikely you will receive back to back work. For this reason, it is important to always make sure you know when the next dance auditions are being held. For just £1.50 per text, Audition Now will send you a maximum of three text alerts per week (if you are over 18) to let you know when the next auditions are happening. You will probably already know that to be a professional dancer you need to be extremely fit and talented. However, getting through a dance casting is something else entirely. Any kind of audition can make you nervous and if you were an actor you may fluff your lines or as a singer you may sing a bum note. If a dancer makes a mistake though it can cause serious injury so can be even more nerve wracking. Make yourself less nervous by arriving on time and making sure you’re fully prepared. Read any instructions carefully and follow them. Don’t be afraid to stand out by wearing bright clothes and putting yourself to the front of a group. Finally, don’t let rejection get you down – it will happen to every auditionee, good or bad, at some point.
