Getting Through the Lean Times as a Working Actor

Friday, September 16th, 2011

The devastating effects of the recent economic downturn have not spared many industries throughout the UK. Naturally, this climate of austerity means that there are now fewer theatre acting jobs around. Therefore, if you are a working actor, it is now more important than ever to make even more effort with your acting auditions and casting calls. This not only means making yourself available at very short notice but also entails making sure you keep your ear close to the ground so that you know about any and all upcoming productions.

There are things that you can do when lean times like these come around. Instead of sitting around feeling angry or pitiful, you can work on your performance abilities; getting further guidance will help you to develop your confidence, which in turn will lead to you being able to sell yourself better at theatre casting calls.

We here at Audition Now provide services that can be of great help in these uncertain times. Breaking into Modelling

Friday, September 9th, 2011

When most people think about the modelling industry, they often conjure up images of stick-thin women with legs up to their necks. However, although the catwalks and designer-clothes that go hand-in-hand with this side of the industry are what stand uppermost in most peoples’ minds, it only accounts for a small percentage of the products that are promoted in the media each year.

There are many other sides of the industry that use models of all shapes and sizes to help promote various different brands or products. This means that there are lots of work opportunities for models who are neither stick-thin nor overly leggy.  Although it may be slightly less glamorous than the catwalks of Milan, some of the work involved with more everyday model jobs can be really quite lucrative. Therefore, if you think you might have what it takes, why not get the latest news of what opportunities are available throughout the UK and put yourself forward to become a model?

Here at Audition Now, we offer services that can help you to maximise your potential as a model. Not only can we assist you in promoting your fledgling career, we can also offer a text message service that will notify you of all the model auditions that are relevant to your criteria. To receive these messages, all you need to do is be at least 18 years-old and be prepared to pay a mere £1.50 per text (maximum of three texts per week).

What’s there to lose?

Walk This Way

Friday, June 24th, 2011

If you’re just starting out as a model and you’re considering catwalk modelling then you’ll need to learn how to step out in style. Follow these simple steps to get started.

You need to be comfortable walking in up to 4 inch heels. If you’re unused to walking in heels then start with a low heel and work your way up. If you are walking in new shoes then either scratch the sole, or cover it with masking tape to give you extra grip.

In modelling, good posture is essential. Pull your shoulders back and push your pelvis forward, almost as if you’re leaning back. Keep your eyes up and focus on an object directly ahead of you.

As you walk make sure to put one foot directly in front of the other, as if you are walking along a tightrope. At the end of the catwalk, place your left foot forward, pause with your body facing the side of the runway and turn. Your walk will restart with your right foot and you should make sure you turn your face away from the audience last.

It’s important to practice and re-practice until you feel comfortable with your walk. You will usually be asked to show off your walk at model casting calls. These can be in rooms of very different sizes so make sure to practice your walk for different distances.

Once you’ve perfected your walk, sign up with our text service to receive up-to-date information on model auditions. You will receive no more than 3 texts a week, costing just £1.50 per text. Please be aware you must be over 18 to use this service.

Starting out as a Glamour Model

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

If you’re interested in modelling but don’t have a typical catwalk figure then you may want to consider becoming a glamour model. You can be shorter or fuller figured than catwalk models but it is essential that you have good skin and a firm body.

People often associate glamour modelling with nudity but this is not always the case – this genre also includes lingerie and swimwear. This type of modelling is all about attitude. The focus of the shots will be you, rather than your clothes, so practice poses and facial expressions in front of a mirror until you feel comfortable.

When you go to your photoshoot, wear clothing that won’t leave marks on your skin. You might want to check in advance whether you should arrive with or without makeup as the photographer may have their own stylist. Bring your own makeup just in case, though, along with a selection of outfits and high heels.

During the shoot stay relaxed and breathe naturally. Your posture is important so pull your shoulders back and lift your chin up. Listen to the directions the photographer gives you but be prepared to use some of your practiced poses too.

Finding model jobs can be a time-consuming process, which is why we have a dedicated research team searching out all the latest opportunities for you. To stay informed sign up for our text service here on the Audition Now website. You’ll receive up to 3 texts a week, for just £1.50 a text. You must be over 18 to use this service.

Modelling is a Mix of Graft and Glamour

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

When people think about modelling, they often imagine fancy cocktails, glamorous photo shoots, celebrity parties and a life of generally luxury and jet-setting. For those who make it to the very top of the industry, some of this is true.

However, all models must work hard to achieve their goals and many spend their careers putting in hard graft without being treated to the champagne lifestyle.

If you want to enter the industry and achieve success, you need to go into it with your eyes open. If you have the right attitude and work hard, you can enjoy a rewarding and potentially lucrative working life in which you will get to meet plenty of interesting people and see a range of places.

But behind the scenes, there is a lot of work to do and you must be conscientious and dedicated. For example, you need to make sure you have your finger on the pulse when it comes to model auditions and model casting calls. Text alert services such as the one provided by us here at Audition Now can be extremely helpful for this. To qualify, you must be 18 or over – £1.50 per text with a maximum of 3 texts per week.

Also, you must be committed to staying in shape. This will require sticking to a strict diet and engaging in plenty of exercise.

Meanwhile, you have to be prepared to take part in long photo shoots, fashion shows and other such things that drain your energy.

Is your Portfolio up to Scratch?

Monday, April 11th, 2011

Seeking modelling jobs requires a lot of work. You must have your ear to the ground and know how to be in the right place at the right time when it comes to model auditions and model casting calls, and of course be able to look fabulous on demand.

Another important thing is your portfolio. This is your primary marketing tool and if it is not up-to-scratch, you are doing yourself a considerable disservice. When casting agents and other industry insiders are seeking models, they often refer to these resources.

To stand a chance of being selected, yours must therefore create a fantastic impression. For this reason, it pays off to invest in a quality portfolio.

This by far the quickest way of demonstrating your talents and abilities and these days it is virtually impossible to make headway in the business without such examples of your work.

When you are putting together your portfolio, you should be tactical. Obviously, you want to use shots in which you are looking your best. However, you must also think about the sorts of jobs you are applying for.

In the same way you might tailor your CV when applying for a particular job to show you have the skills for that specific role, you should show the people responsible for choosing that you perfectly match their requirements.

Putting in more time and effort when it comes to your portfolio now could well pay dividends in the future.

To make your life easier, you should also consider using our text alerts service here at Audition Now. However, you must be 18 or over. £1.50 per text, with a maximum of 3 texts per week.

Can you Cope with the World of Modelling?

Monday, March 21st, 2011

When people think of modelling, they often imagine glamorous photo shoots, fancy clothes, luxurious working locations, celebrity status, adoration and other such things. Indeed, if you are successful in your attempts to break into the industry, you might be lucky enough to experience some of this.

However, the realities of the industry are not all so sugar-coated. It is certainly true that a career as a magazine model, catwalk model or other such specialist can bring immense rewards. For example, it has the ability to take people to different places around the world they would otherwise never have visited, as well as introducing them to interesting and successful people. And of course there is the pride that a career like this can bring.

But there are other aspects of the industry that you ought to bear in mind too, and some of these require a strong character to deal with. For example, there is always a degree of insecurity in such work. You can never feel 100 per cent certain that you will keep being chosen for roles. After all, there are many attractive people out there eager to take your place.

Also, you must be tough to insulate yourself from the politics of the industry and you need to have a lot of self-control in order to maintain the look needed. Meanwhile, it is vital that you are patient, as being a model can involve a lot of waiting around while shots are being set up or before shows take place.

As long as you think you tick all the boxes, you stand a good chance of forging yourself and happy and successful career.

If you want to use our auditions service, please bear in mind you must be 18 or over (£1.50 per text, maximum of 3 texts per week).

Finding Auditions For Fashion Modelling

Friday, March 4th, 2011

If it’s your dream to become a fashion model, chances are you’ve already done a fair bit of research on the topic. But maybe now you’re wondering how you can break into modelling—and how to find those much needed auditions. Here are some tips to help you find auditions for fashion modelling.

One of the first places you can look is any major website or online forum that has to do with acting and modelling. You should look for legitimate companies with good reputations. Don’t just assume that a company is good because they are offering you an audition.

You can also check newspapers and magazines for advertisements and casting calls. Sometimes performance and theatre related publications will have such advertisements in the back section.

Another thing to try is to call up local shops and ask them if they need models. Even if you aren’t paid much, you could get your foot in the door by doing local modelling and fashion shows. It’s at least something you can put on your resume.

Online, look into Audition Now. We do the searching for you and send you text messages (up to three a week) with quality, well researched audition information. You must be at least 18 years old, and the texts cost £1.50 each. You can choose your preferred type of audition so that you only get texts related to the areas you are interested in.

Finally, remember not to give up if you don’t get a job straight away. Keep on trying.

How to Build a Glamour Model Portfolio

Monday, November 29th, 2010

So you want to get into glamour modelling but you don’t have any experience? How do you build a good portfolio to present to an agency? Here are some tips help you build a glamour model portfolio.

Every good portfolio starts with a good CV. If you have never written a CV, you can start with a CV template provided in most word processing software. The basics should be self explanatory—your name, your address, your telephone number, your job history, and your education.

Next, make sure you include any relevant information, such as any modelling experience you may have. Perhaps you were in a teenage pageant, or maybe you won an award or you were in a fashion show. All of this counts toward modelling experience.

Revise your CV, print it out and have someone else look over it for errors. A flawless CV will get you a long way.

Next, a good modelling portfolio will include some photos of you. You should have recent photos done, and you should include at least one that shows your full body as well as a head shot. Don’t try to look glamorous in your photos—that’s not your job. Your job is to look happy, confident, and attractive. Let the experts do the rest.

When your portfolio is ready, submit it to an agency or two and wait for interviews. You can also attend open calls without first submitting model portfolios. Try Audition Now to find local calls. (18 and over, £1.50 per text, up to three texts per week.)
