Develop your Own Style to Truly Impress

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

Like many people trying to make it big in modelling, acting or other similar disciplines, you will no doubt have certain idols who you look up to and whose work you admire. Whether you are bowled over by the success and glamour of Naomi Campbell, the immense acting talent of Sir Ian McKellen or anyone else, you might well take cues from their work.

There is nothing wrong with this. Identifying the strongest elements of their ways of working and doing your best to emulate them can have positive results in terms of your own abilities.

However, there comes a stage when you must break away from the influence of others and form your own style. After all, casting directors are often seeking something original with its own merits when they observe performances.

The process of forging your own way can be tough. But as you start to become more confident in your abilities and your career begins to build momentum, you should find the task gets easier.

You can cause a real stir in acting casting calls, model auditions and other such scenarios by bringing your own take to the tasks set out for you.

Who knows, eventually your success might be such that future hopefuls are imitating your style.

So that you do not miss out on casting sessions, you might want to think about signing up to our text alert service here at Audition Now. To do so, you must be 18 or over. £1.50 per text, with a max of 3 texts per week.

It can Pay Off to Think Big

Monday, April 25th, 2011

It is true to say that it is by no means easy to make it in disciplines such as acting and modelling. After all, these are highly competitive areas and there are many people clamouring to make it to the top.

And of course, even if you do achieve your goals in the field, your working life will require significant sacrifices. You might have to engage in a lot of travelling and you will have to consistently strive for excellence.

But you should in no way let this put you off trying to achieve your goal. By thinking big and aiming for the top, you could end up as one of the lucky ones enjoying a life of fame and fortune.

As long as you have a sense of self-belief and are focussed in your efforts, your hard work could pay off. And if it does, you will have the chance to lead an extraordinary existence.

In order to stand a chance, you must have confidence in your abilities and remain unfazed by the challenges that lie ahead. You will have to put up with stress, rejection and heartache along the way, but the holy grail that lies at the end of the path is worth every bead of sweat and teardrop you shed along the way.

Don’t Lose Heart at Casting Calls

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

Attending casting calls can be a nerve-wracking experience. While compared to other people you know, your acting, singing or modelling abilities might be superb, when you find yourself among a large number of extremely talented individuals, your confidence might take a dive.

Realising the level of competition around is never pleasant as it brings into focus exactly how difficult your task is.

However, the important thing is not to lose heart at this stage. You have worked hard to get here and you would be letting yourself down if you are intimidated and cannot perform as well as you would like.

So, you should keep your head high and give your all. Obviously, you cannot always be successful during such auditions, but as long as you put in 100 per cent effort, you stand as good a chance as anyone.

And remember, the other people around you are also experiencing nerves. Often, people develop the ability to look completely calm and in control during acting casting calls and other such events but the truth may be far from this.

You have just as much right to be in the room as anyone else and you should never feel differently.

So that you don’t miss out on opportunities like this, you might want to think about singing up to our text alert service for casting sessions here at Audition Now. But to be eligible for this, you must be 18 or over. £1.50 per text, with a max of 3 texts per week.

Aim for the Stars but Keep your Feet on the Ground

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

If you are aiming for a career in modelling, acting, musical theatre or other similar industries, you have a long and potential rocky road ahead of you. However, you should not let this put you off. The rewards if you are successful can be immense and your life will be varied and exciting.

When it comes to making it to the top in such competitive industries attitude is key. Without the right mental approach to the task, you are unlikely to achieve your goals.

One of the common mistakes made by hopefuls is to become complacent after the first hint of accomplishment. True, in industries like these it is crucial that you have self-belief and aim for the stars. After all, there are so many others out there seeking to outdo you and compete for the same roles that you only stand a chance if you have faith in your own abilities.

However, you should avoid the temptation to get ahead of yourself and start believing you are destined for great things. Such an attitude can annoy those you work with and mean you do not perform as well as you could.

Remember, throughout your career, whether you are taking part in model casting calls, musical theatre auditions or you have been selected for certain roles, you must be humble in your approach, keen to learn and always put in 100 per cent.

Another way in which you might be able to boost your chances of success is to take advantage of our auditions and casting text alerts. However, you must be 18 or over (£1.50 per text, with max of 3 texts per week).

Perseverance is Key

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

To make it as an actor, West End star, model or other type of performer, you will require a plethora of qualities. Of course, you need to have talent and to look the part.

However, one of the most important characteristics is perseverance. In order to enjoy success, you will have to get over many failures. The simple fact is, you will not always be selected when you attend auditions. No matter how good you are, there is always a chance there will be someone better or more suited to the role in question.

The people who climb to the top of these industries are those who pick themselves up after such disappointments, dust themselves off and move onwards and upwards in their pursuit of success.

This sort of dogged determination is a prerequisite. Those who lack it eventually find they are not strong enough to deal with the rejection. For these people, it is time to find a new line of work that does not involve this kind of pressure and constant appraisal.

So, if you are eager to make it big, you should always try to take positives out of seemingly bad outcomes and use the things you learn to help you improve. And remember, don’t take rejection too personally. It is simply part of putting yourself in the limelight.

To maximise your chances of getting work, you need to ensure you make it to as many acting casting calls, model auditions and other such things as possible. To help you with this, we here at Audition Now provide a text alert service. To be eligible for this, you need to be 18 or over. £1.50 per text, with a max of 3 texts per week.

Be Flexible to Boost your Career Prospects

Monday, April 4th, 2011

Pursuing a career as an actor, model or musical star can lead to many wonderful opportunities. If you are highly talented and enjoy your fair share of luck, you stand to achieve fame and fortune and you will get to meet plenty of interesting people.

However, there is a huge level of competition out there when it comes to acting, modelling and other such arts. After all, many people want the chance to make it big and be a success in these fields.

Therefore, it is vital you do everything you can to boost your prospects. One crucial quality you must display is the ability to be flexible. It is unlikely you will rise to the top in any of these industries if you do not accept the fact you will probably need to travel to find work.

When opportunities arise, you should not let geographical issues get in your way. Being proactive and following leads around the country – and even abroad if necessary – means you are exposing yourself to many more opportunities.

Also, you should be prepared to attend musical theatre auditions, acting casting calls and other such events at the drop of a hat. These opportunities can be too few and far between and missing them because you are busy doing other things can severely impede your ability to rise to the top.

One great way of staying up-to-date with the latest in the world of casting sessions is to sign up to our text alert service here at Audition Now. However, you must be 18 or above. Texts cost £1.50 each, with a maximum of three per week.

The Life-work Balance and Acting Auditions

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Traditionally, actors hate acting auditions: they rarely know the competition they are up against, they never know what they will be asked to do, and there is no time to warm up the audition panel. However, acting auditions are the actor’s ‘bread and butter’, so if you want to make a career out of acting, then however much you hate or dread them, you have to learn to live with auditions.

There are many techniques you can use to help you keep at bay your fears about auditioning. With experience and a bit of practice, you can learn to control your nerves, and make the process a useful element in the development of your talent.

Screen star Katharine Hepburn once famously said: “Life’s what’s important… acting’s just waiting for the custard pie.”
The point of the remark is to put acting in perspective. You will doubtless know of people who become so obsessive about getting the next part, that it seems they would rather die than fail to be cast. Don’t forget that life is also the actor’s ultimate study resource. What the audience recognises as ‘true’ in a performance is more often than not what the actor has, perhaps by chance, observed in ordinary people in everyday life.

Here at Audition Now, we help you get to as many auditions as you can through our customised texting service. With so many work opportunities to hand, you can be sure of achieving a healthy life-work balance.

Deer Caught in Headlights

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Treading the boards – to some, nothing compares. Even the most seasoned pro occasionally succumbs to the dreaded stage fight!

Get through that initial moment of terror by calmly thinking, “this is just my reality right now. Not forever.”

Often, a major stress-factor in any performance (no matter how far past the auditions or casting calls) is the strange sense that floods your body, telling you that the fear will last forever. Think back to the days of school exams; that feeling that a two hour maths exam seemed to occupy a slightly different point in space and time that somehow stretched on for at least eighteen hours! Similarly, no moment of fear can last forever. Feel it. Think about the next moment, a moment in which you are fine, and go there.

In the words of the Girl Guides, Be Prepared. Turning up to auditions or casting calls spluttering apologies of lateness, stumbling onto the stage and trying to read your monologue off the back of your hand just isn’t going to fly with anyone. You need to know your stuff inside and out. Prepare extra work, try to guess what direction a potentially odd audition could go and ponder on it, at least a little, before the big day.

Focus on the little things, like breathing! The advice to “take a deep breath” is legendary for a good reason – it works.

Please note that you need to be 18 years and over to our service (£1.50 per text with max of three texts per week).

Never Work With…

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Never work with children or animals is regarded as timeless advice in the acting industry.

With the amount of superstitions and proverbs fluttering about the performing arts world, scrutinising over nervous actors, aspiring models and such like Dante’s demons, it’s a wonder anybody acts!

Here are a few other performing arts quotes and sayings to mull over before your West End castings or theatre auditions.

“It ain’t over ‘til the fat lady sings,” – A reference to the final vocal styling of operatic sopranos who are, as history tells it, generally a little soft around the edges. Specifically, Brunnhilda’s final arias from “Die Walkure” or “Gotterdammerung” is cited as the actual origin of the saying.

“The show must go on!” – A great life lesson to adopt really, especially in the torrent of theatre auditions, model castings and so on endured by performing artists. Or perhaps, if you’re in similar mischievous spirits as Noel Coward, you can ask yourself “Why must the show go on?”

“Three Blind Mice,” is apparently an unlucky tune due to the fact that it contains the number 3; a traditionally unlucky number!

To use our service you must be 18 years and over. (£1.50 per text with max of three texts per week).

Making an Impression at Your Acting Auditions

Monday, May 24th, 2010

There is a lot you can do to help yourself do well at acting auditions: whether it is being well-informed about who you are auditioning for, choosing particular audition pieces that best show off your talent, or something as simple as being relaxed and friendly to your audition panel.

What you can’t do, is be someone you actually aren’t at auditions, and in the end it won’t help you to pretend otherwise. This means, for a start, that you can afford to be selective about what auditions you go to. If, for example, you are too young for the role, it does you no good to pretend you are not.

What you can do – and it happens more often in live theatre than in film or television – is make a good case for casting the role in question against type. In other words, show your panel how the role might be played if you were cast in it.

When asked about plastic surgery, actress Kate Winslet said, ‘It makes these people, actors especially, fantasy figures for a fantasy world…acting is about being real, being honest.’ You should always remember this when preparing for auditions. However much you think you want the part, you can’t ‘pretend’ your way into it. A casting director can always spot a fake.

Here at Audition Now, we instantly help you access all the latest acting auditions. We give you so many work opportunities, you need never pretend otherwise.
