Do I Need Training to Be An Actor?

Friday, December 17th, 2010

Some actors have made it after years and years of intensive training, whilst others have been lucky enough to turn up to their first audition with no training whatsoever and walk away with a great part.

So the truth is, if you have a natural gift there is a chance you won’t need training at all. However, training can still help refine certain aspects of both your understanding of acting and also of how to best get ahead within the industry, so taking a course now and again is certainly not going to hurt your chances.

Audition Now not only offers those over 18 years of age the chance to get the very first look at upcoming casting calls (with a maximum of three text updates per week charge at £1.50 per text), but also offers access to a range of training courses and seminars which will help give you the groundwork you need to get ahead, whether you have been training for years or are totally new to the acting world.

Whether you want to just be on TV or want the very best chance at West End auditions, training can help give you that extra edge in a very competitive industry. Whilst you may well have the looks or the talent to get you far, it is very rare that people can just walk into an audition and walk away with the part, but simply honing those raw skills with some of our training courses might just help you do it.

Every rejection in life pinches a little, from the sandpit to the grave. Unfortunately, as a performer and citizen of the arts, you’re rather opening yourself up for a potentially painful existence. With every audition for the West End, reality TV casting call or model portfolio interview, you are opening up a whole can of very judgemental worms!

“Dealing with rejection” sounds like a cliche. But it really is crucial to have a few coping mechanisms in place to help you get a thick skin and move on. After all, the odds aren’t in your favour when it comes to landing every job you audition for.

Perspective

It can be argued that life is all about perspective. Indeed, history, treason, art, great musical theatre, and songs – they’re all about perspective.

Get a little perspective on your audition by tactfully requesting some feedback from the casting director, but be sure to mention up front that you’re not trying to change their mind, simply improve yourself for next time.

Obviously this could be impossible in situations like the reality TV casting call, but for regular auditions for West End, or modelling. you should be fine. Without outside perspective, assess yourself honestly. If you know you did your best just chalk it down to rotten luck and, most importantly, move on.

To use our text auditions service you must be aged 18 years and over (£1.50 per text with max of three texts per week).

Succeeding at actors auditions

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

The theatre, TV and film businesses are generally busy, which is good news for actors because there is plenty of work out there. However, work is often sporadic and there is also a lot of competition in the industry, partiuclarly if you want to be on TV or have auditions for West End theatre.

An important rule with casting calls or acting auditions is not to let rejection get you down. This can happen easily, especially if you have spent time researching the play, the programme, the story or the character: it feels like a lot of wasted effort. What aspiring actors must remember is that being turned down is not a personal reflection on them, but on how good a ‘fit’ they were for the part.

It is also important to remember that however many casting calls you have been to, the next one  is a unique opportunity in itself, so you must treat it like that, not like just another in a long list. You may well be meeting your auditions panel for the first time. They are as keen for you to succeed as you are: they are hoping that it’s you, the next person coming into the room, that will be the right ‘fit’ for the role they have to fill.

A positive attitude is vital for you to succeed: if you have the talent, sooner or later you will land the right part for yourself.

Here at Audition Now we offer all our expertise to help you find that role, as well as keeping you abreast of all the latest auditioning opportunities.
