Modelling and your Career Prospects

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Opportunities abound for people who are considering modelling work, and modelling agencies regularly look out for new faces.

For typical catwalk fashion modelling, there is a strict height requirement for women of over 5ft 7 inches, but there are many different types of modelling work. For example, product modelling and hand modelling are other areas that you could get involved in, so you shouldn’t rule out the possibility of your finding work in those areas, even if you don’t ‘measure up’.

It is unusual for trained actors to move into modelling work, but not unusual for models to move on to film and television work as actors. If you have particular or classic ‘good looks’ it may be that it will be easier for you to find work in the modelling business than in the acting business. If you really want to act, then modelling may be a very good way for you to start.

Through the London agencies the rates of pay are generous enough, at up to £150 an hour, for you to make a reasonable living; but the competition is fierce, and if you are successful in getting it, the work itself can be very demanding.
