Modelling is a Mix of Graft and Glamour

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

When people think about modelling, they often imagine fancy cocktails, glamorous photo shoots, celebrity parties and a life of generally luxury and jet-setting. For those who make it to the very top of the industry, some of this is true.

However, all models must work hard to achieve their goals and many spend their careers putting in hard graft without being treated to the champagne lifestyle.

If you want to enter the industry and achieve success, you need to go into it with your eyes open. If you have the right attitude and work hard, you can enjoy a rewarding and potentially lucrative working life in which you will get to meet plenty of interesting people and see a range of places.

But behind the scenes, there is a lot of work to do and you must be conscientious and dedicated. For example, you need to make sure you have your finger on the pulse when it comes to model auditions and model casting calls. Text alert services such as the one provided by us here at Audition Now can be extremely helpful for this. To qualify, you must be 18 or over – £1.50 per text with a maximum of 3 texts per week.

Also, you must be committed to staying in shape. This will require sticking to a strict diet and engaging in plenty of exercise.

Meanwhile, you have to be prepared to take part in long photo shoots, fashion shows and other such things that drain your energy.

Alternative Modelling: Get Your Freak On!

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Ever been to a modelling audition where phrases like “more hair on her lip would be great” or “yeah, but the 23 stone guy was better in my opinion,” were being tossed around?

Alternative modelling is proving to be big business in the industry of character modelling. Character models usually fall in three categories – everyman, extreme or unusual, and type.

Character models aren’t restricted by height, weight, clothing size, hair coverage, or age. The aim is to fit a “type”, be it “glamorous granny”, “Chinese gymnast”, “Italian plumber”, “circus freak”, “terrifyingly tall old man” – anything!

Everyman

Are you normal? Everyday faces and body shapes are in demand for all kinds of work. Model jobs can vary from a local council poster to international add campaigns.

Extreme and Unusual

To become a model when you have a tattoo of Popeye on your left cheek might not seem like the obvious choice, but that’s just the type of look character modelling agencies go for. Your extreme looks or unique attributes (tallness, gap tooth, extra finger, very blue eyes) could be in demand!

Type

When a client approaches a modelling agency saying “Get me a mid-forties, bearded, slightly portly milkman who looks like he might have served time”, could you be just what they’re looking for? It’s important to remember that character modelling agencies differ to look-alike firms.

Don’t forget, no matter how unique your look, unless you’re over 18 we can’t offer our auditions service to you (£1.50 per text, maximum of three texts per week).

Opportunities in Modelling

Monday, October 25th, 2010

The term ‘modelling’ conjures up in a lot of people’s minds a fashion show cat-walk and a life of glamour. In fact, opportunities for modelling work are wide-ranging, so don’t feel excluded because you aren’t female, leggy and over five foot nine inches tall.

The world of advertising is dominated by the need for people to model. For high-end exclusive items such as watches or jewellery, a celebrity actor may be used, but as often as not products maximise their appeal by being associated with the general public. What advertisers know is that if the public can identify with the person in the ad, the product gains in its appeal. Very often, the ‘model’ looks like a mix between someone people think they are and someone people think they want to be.

Some products are best modelled by specific reference not to a person, but to a part of the body, most obviously hands or feet. It may sound like a humble sort of modelling, but there is a considerable market for it, so if you have what it takes you may be able to earn quite handsomely from it.

Whichever level you want to come in at with modelling work, you will need to persevere at it to start earning from it. Finding the opportunities is the first hurdle, and that is where we at Audition Now can help. With our extensive contacts in the business we keep you informed of all the best model jobs, texting them direct to your mobile phone.

Acting Auditions on the Move

Friday, October 15th, 2010

When you are busy either rehearsing or in a run of performances, it can be difficult to keep tabs on the latest work opportunities for you, especially if you are working away from home. This is a potential problem for your career. Even if you have an agent and are happy with how they work for you, knowing what is coming up means you need to be in the loop, and if you are out of town you are in danger of getting out of touch.

Some actors take this so seriously they avoid work that takes them too far from their home patch, but that need not be the case for you. The key asset for an actor is to be in the know, and now there is a way of letting work take you anywhere without missing out on the next acting auditions or casting calls.

Here at Audition Now, we specialize in getting all the latest information about acting auditions, modelling opportunities or even extras auditions, to our subscribers as soon as it is known about. We text you direct to your mobile phone to give you all the latest details of upcoming acting opportunities, so that you can decide what you want to go for.

Remember that with our extensive network of industry-wide contacts across the UK, we are uniquely placed to know about all the significant work opportunities out there. You will be amongst the first to know, wherever you may be.

Starting Modelling Work

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

If you want to be sure of regular modelling work, you will sooner or later join a modelling agency. Modelling agencies have access to most of the lucrative work opportunities, but it can take time and a lot of perseverance before you land a contract with one of them. Besides, approaching agencies will require you to have some kind of portfolio of images of yourself. If you are starting out, you may not have many professional examples of your modelling work.

Another good way to get into modelling is to find out where and when the big agencies are holding casting calls. Don’t be put off by the large numbers of hopefuls that turn up to these calls: if you have the looks and the patience, you can reasonably expect to make a mark, even amongst hundreds of others.

Modelling agencies generally advertise their casting calls in the trade magazines and the local press, but it can be hard work trying to keep up with all that’s available. If you spend all your time trying to find out what opportunities there may be, you will leave little time to turn up to the casting calls and make an impression.

This is where Audition Now can help. We keep you updated on the very latest modelling work, texting you direct to your mobile phone. This means that you are not only kept fully informed of modelling opportunities appropriate for you, but also that you have the time to maximise your exposure.
