Find Out Where your True Talent Lies

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

If you are seeking to make it big in disciplines such as modelling, acting and musical theatre, you have a lot of work ahead of you. Such fields are extremely competitive and it is not hard to see why. Those who achieve success can potentially look forward to considerable fame and fortune, and a varied and interesting working life.

But to have a hope of reaching this stage, it is vital you hone your talents. Part of this is deciding where exactly your abilities lie. For example, if you are an actor, you ought to think carefully about the sort of roles you are best suited to.

Perhaps you are perfect for comedic roles. In this case, you should seek auditions for positions like this. On the other hand, you might be better when you are playing heavy, dramatic characters, meaning you should focus on these types of acting casting calls.

Similarly, when it comes to modelling, you should decide what your strengths are and focus on these. Developing an appropriate portfolio and putting yourself forward for the most suitable casting sessions is vital.

Being strategic in this way may significantly increase your chances of success and it means you can concentrate more on developing your abilities, which is great news for your career as a whole.

To make your life easier when it comes to finding out about castings, you might want to consider taking advantage of our text alert service here at Audition Now. However, you must be 18 or over. Texts cost £1.50 each, with a maximum of 3 texts per week.

Be Flexible to Boost your Career Prospects

Monday, April 4th, 2011

Pursuing a career as an actor, model or musical star can lead to many wonderful opportunities. If you are highly talented and enjoy your fair share of luck, you stand to achieve fame and fortune and you will get to meet plenty of interesting people.

However, there is a huge level of competition out there when it comes to acting, modelling and other such arts. After all, many people want the chance to make it big and be a success in these fields.

Therefore, it is vital you do everything you can to boost your prospects. One crucial quality you must display is the ability to be flexible. It is unlikely you will rise to the top in any of these industries if you do not accept the fact you will probably need to travel to find work.

When opportunities arise, you should not let geographical issues get in your way. Being proactive and following leads around the country – and even abroad if necessary – means you are exposing yourself to many more opportunities.

Also, you should be prepared to attend musical theatre auditions, acting casting calls and other such events at the drop of a hat. These opportunities can be too few and far between and missing them because you are busy doing other things can severely impede your ability to rise to the top.

One great way of staying up-to-date with the latest in the world of casting sessions is to sign up to our text alert service here at Audition Now. However, you must be 18 or above. Texts cost £1.50 each, with a maximum of three per week.

Finding Auditions For Fashion Modelling

Friday, March 4th, 2011

If it’s your dream to become a fashion model, chances are you’ve already done a fair bit of research on the topic. But maybe now you’re wondering how you can break into modelling—and how to find those much needed auditions. Here are some tips to help you find auditions for fashion modelling.

One of the first places you can look is any major website or online forum that has to do with acting and modelling. You should look for legitimate companies with good reputations. Don’t just assume that a company is good because they are offering you an audition.

You can also check newspapers and magazines for advertisements and casting calls. Sometimes performance and theatre related publications will have such advertisements in the back section.

Another thing to try is to call up local shops and ask them if they need models. Even if you aren’t paid much, you could get your foot in the door by doing local modelling and fashion shows. It’s at least something you can put on your resume.

Online, look into Audition Now. We do the searching for you and send you text messages (up to three a week) with quality, well researched audition information. You must be at least 18 years old, and the texts cost £1.50 each. You can choose your preferred type of audition so that you only get texts related to the areas you are interested in.

Finally, remember not to give up if you don’t get a job straight away. Keep on trying.

How to Build a Glamour Model Portfolio

Monday, November 29th, 2010

So you want to get into glamour modelling but you don’t have any experience? How do you build a good portfolio to present to an agency? Here are some tips help you build a glamour model portfolio.

Every good portfolio starts with a good CV. If you have never written a CV, you can start with a CV template provided in most word processing software. The basics should be self explanatory—your name, your address, your telephone number, your job history, and your education.

Next, make sure you include any relevant information, such as any modelling experience you may have. Perhaps you were in a teenage pageant, or maybe you won an award or you were in a fashion show. All of this counts toward modelling experience.

Revise your CV, print it out and have someone else look over it for errors. A flawless CV will get you a long way.

Next, a good modelling portfolio will include some photos of you. You should have recent photos done, and you should include at least one that shows your full body as well as a head shot. Don’t try to look glamorous in your photos—that’s not your job. Your job is to look happy, confident, and attractive. Let the experts do the rest.

When your portfolio is ready, submit it to an agency or two and wait for interviews. You can also attend open calls without first submitting model portfolios. Try Audition Now to find local calls. (18 and over, £1.50 per text, up to three texts per week.)

Modelling is No Easy Option

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

You could be forgiven for thinking that a model’s life is spent lazing around in the lap of luxury, doing the odd feature for a celebrity magazine, with never a care in the world. Modelling is easy, right?

Nothing is further from the truth: all models know that nowadays, they must be available for photo-shoots at any time of day or night, during weekdays, and weekends. They perhaps wouldn’t like to admit that the working hours they keep are very often long and anti-social. There is in addition a lot of uncertainty about work, particularly for those younger models who are starting off in the business. Weeks may go by without a single call from the agency, and then there will be a rush of photo-sessions. However tiring these are, a model knows that he or she simply can’t afford to turn the opportunity down.

The work itself is not so easy: it may take hours to set up the shot, and hundreds of modelling poses may be tried out before the final image is arrived at. This takes both stamina and imagination, and a lot of self-confidence on the part of the model. Many sessions are solo calls, so you have to be sure you like your own company!

If you want to become a model, it is also important to consider the types of modelling that you may venture into. Fashion, catwalk and glamour modelling are all considerations that you need to give thought to.

If you are starting out on a modelling career, then here at Audition Now we give you the perfect opportunities to make your mark. We advise you of all the latest casting calls, as soon as they come up, by texting you direct to your mobile phone.

Fancy a Career as a Model?

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

If you think you have the stamina and perseverance (and the looks!) for a career in modelling, you will need to work out a strategy for getting yourself seen in all the right places. Unless you have uniquely striking looks, you will only get work through a modelling agency.  It is the modelling agencies that have the majority of contacts with the photographers and the advertising agencies, so they are best placed to offer the greatest amount of work.

The difficulty is to get yourself onto the books of a model agency. Although agencies are constantly on the look-out for new talent, it rarely happens that you can just walk uninvited into one of their offices and get taken on there and then. Usually, agencies advertise a public audition or casting calls in the press, but it is hard to keep yourself informed of all of these, especially if you want to be seen by a number of agencies.

The difficulty is compounded if you decide to consider agencies outside London. The advantage of looking further afield is that you not only have a wider choice, but you also are more likely to get yourself noticed outside the capital. Besides, it’s a good way to start out and gain experience. The problem is keeping up with what’s on offer.

Here at Audition Now, we offer comprehensive support to those looking for modelling jobs: an up-to-the-minute texting service, direct to your mobile phone, of all the latest work opportunities right across the country.

Checklist for Casting Calls

Friday, April 30th, 2010

You have the date, time and venue confirmed for your next casting calls. What should you do before you meet the audition panel?

First, you need to feel really sure of your prepared pieces – not just in memorising them, but in how you deliver them. You also need to be ready to be asked to perform a bit again, perhaps in a completely different way.

Secondly, you need to do some background research into whom and what you are auditioning for. What other projects have your audition panel worked on? What is the current project about? What role or roles are they hoping to cast at the audition?

Next, you need to check that your CV and 10×8 headshot are up-to-date: are there particular skills that would be relevant to the auditions which you should perhaps highlight in your CV?

If you have a script for your audition, you should make sure that you have read all of it, not just the part of it they want you to do in the audition; you may have an opportunity to discuss the whole script and ask questions.

Lastly, decide well in advance what you are going to wear.  It should ideally be something comfortable that doesn’t impede movement. Remember that your panel will not want to see you dressed up.

At Audition Now we offer the perfect complement to your acting career. We notify you of all the latest casting calls or modelling opportunities, and help you find the acting work that best suits you.

Modelling Opportunities

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Looking for work as a model can be a frustrating experience, and persistence is an important rule if you want to do well in this business. Unfortunately there are thousands of people – men and women – who flood the modelling agencies with portfolios and sample photos, so selling yourself ‘cold’ like that may not be the most efficient way to get yourself noticed.

Modelling agencies, whether they specialise in catwalk modelling or magazine models, frequently hold casting calls to look out for new faces, and these are very often advertised publicly. It is important to get to as many of these open calls as you can. You may feel disheartened to see how many others turn up to these calls, but remember this is probably a fraction of the number of people who have sent in their material to the agencies, so you will get a fairer viewing. Besides, an agency will always find it easier to judge in person, rather than through looking at stills.

It pays to shop around for modelling opportunities. London is of course where the bulk of the best work is centred, but opportunities can be found in other parts of the country. Again, it is important to have access to all the latest information about where modelling work is coming up.

This is where we at Audition Now come in as we keep you posted via text about all the latest modelling opportunities through our own extensive networking. After all, for the successful model, there is only one rule:  if you can’t get yourself seen, you can’t get yourself work.

The Latest Modelling Opportunities

Monday, March 29th, 2010

If you think you have the face that fits, then you need to put yourself forward for the best modelling opportunities. Model agencies are often bombarded with unsolicited ‘dry calls’, and may find it hard to give your application the attention you feel it deserves.

Indeed, very often, sending a photo of yourself will give only a limited idea of what you really look like, or how that look could fit in the next promotion. Therefore, you need to rely on other ways to get yourself noticed. Smaller agencies out of London may be more responsive to dry calls, but the surest way of being seen is to go for open acting auditions or casting calls.

Agencies always need to update their lists, so they are always looking out for new faces. One of the easiest ways for them to do this is to hold open calls for aspiring models. These auditions will be advertised to the public, but if you want to be sure you don’t miss any of them, then you need to have a dependable source of information.

Being ‘in the right place at the right time’ is the motto, and the secret to your success is not just in persevering – it is also in keeping yourself informed of all the work opportunities available to you.

That’s where we at Audition Now come in. We offer an information service second to none, direct to your mobile phone, for all the latest fashion, magazine or catwalk modelling opportunities across the county.
