Types of Acting Auditions

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

As an aspiring actor, it’s likely that you will attend hundreds of auditions. The purpose of the audition process is to identify new talent and assess their suitability for certain roles. Although their purposes are similar, there are a variety of different types of acting auditions. Familiarising yourself with them can make you feel more comfortable once you start attending casting calls.

•    Open Auditions
At an open audition, anyone can try out for the role on offer, regardless of their experience or whether they have representation. This can often lead to people queuing overnight for a chance to get the role of a lifetime. Open acting auditions are often extremely crowded, and the casting agents may not have time to see everyone. Get there as early as you can to increase your chances.

•    Screen Tests
Most commonly done in TV auditions, during a screen test, auditioners are filmed on video while they are performing. This enables casting agents to see how they look on screen and allows them to assess the compatibility of two performers together. Even if you are unsuccessful at a screen test, companies often keep the videos to refer to at a later date. So, they may find a role more suitable for you in the future.

When you feel you’re ready to start auditioning for roles, Audition Now can help. We can send you text alerts informing you of the latest auditions in your area (£1.50 per text with max 3 texts a week). This service is for people of 18 years and over only.

Keep Cool at your Casting Call

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

Auditions can be a stressful experience and everyone gets nervous at times but there are some things you can do to help you to stay calm under pressure.

Make sure your CV and photo portfolio are up-to-date. If you will be auditioning for a specific role then do some research in advance so that you know what the director may be looking for. Rehearse your audition pieces beforehand and make sure they’re appropriate to the role.

Try to get an early night the evening before your audition and avoid drinking too much alcohol. You don’t want to arrive with dark circles under your eyes, or a hangover. If your casting call is before or during a mealtime then make sure to eat before you arrive, but avoid foods with a strong aroma such as onions or garlic.

If you’re going somewhere new then ensure that you know where you’re going. Research alternative transport options and take a map if you’re going to an unfamiliar location. Try to arrive early for open acting auditions so that you have time to look over any audition script.

When you are called in take a deep breath and then breathe out slowly. Relax your jaw, if you’ve tensed it, and smile. Remember to be yourself during your interview. Smile and make eye contact with the director.

To make it easier for you to find acting casting calls just sign up to our text alert service here at Audition Now. You must be 18 years and over. Texts cost £1.50 each and you’ll receive a maximum of 3 texts per week.

Are you Desperate to Avoid a 9-5 Existence?

Friday, April 1st, 2011

If you are of a certain mindset, the 9-5 existence might simply be out of the question. The thought of sitting in an office and going about your routine in front of a computer from Monday to Friday nearly every week of your life might send cold shivers up your spine.

Of course there are ways to avoid this. Rather than seeking more conventional work, you might instead opt to get involved in modelling, or look to become an actor, extra or musical star.

Such occupations are certainly not mundane. Through them, you stand a chance of meeting lots of interesting and unusual individuals, rubbing shoulders with the stars, seeing different parts of the world and receiving the respect and adoration of many people.

And getting up on stage or standing in front of a camera can be an exhilarating experience.

However, to make it in such industries, you have to have bags of talent and be prepared to work hard and make sacrifices. One of the situations you will have to master is appearing at musical casting calls, open acting auditions and other such events.

If you fail to impress those assessing you on occasions like this, you will not be able to forge yourself a successful career. Therefore you need to make sure you prepare for them carefully and always give 100 per cent.

It is also vital that you are in the right place at the right time, so signing up to text alert services such as the one we operate here at Audition Now can boost your chances of making it big.

To be eligible for this, you need to be 18 or above – £1.50 per text, max of 3 texts per week.

Preparation is Key for a Life in the Limelight

Friday, March 25th, 2011

Whether you want to achieve success in the fields of modelling, acting or anything else that involves you being in the limelight, preparation is the key to success. There is no point in turning up to model auditions, acting casting sessions or any other such events not knowing what to expect.

After all, such industries are highly competitive and there are always people eager to take the roles available. Indeed, only if you are on your absolute top game will you stand a chance of being selected. Of course, this means that when you do you will feel immense pride and satisfaction – and rightly so!

But getting ready for open acting auditions and other such events can be tricky, particularly if you are relatively new to the game. This may put you at a disadvantage compared with those who are more savvy in their approach.

However, there is no need to panic as help is at hand. Here at Audition Now, we provide a series of training seminars and courses that are designed to aid you in your preparation. The sessions are run by successful actors and models who have a wealth of experience in the field and so know exactly what is expected of hopefuls.

There is no substitute for these kinds of insights. They can help make the difference between success and failure and set you up to take advantage of the opportunities that come your way.

Of course, this is not the only service we provide. We can also send you texts when auditions and casting events are set to take place.

However, you should note this service is only available to those aged 18 and over and it costs £1.50 per text, with a maximum of 3 texts per week.

Enlist Help when Preparing for an Acting Audition

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

Preparing for acting auditions can be a nerve-racking experience. Your success in the industry will be determined by events such as this and if you fail too often, you will not make it. But it can be hard to get ready for acting casting calls, open acting auditions and other such things. No matter how many times you rehearse, you can still freeze up when the time comes.

One way of reducing the risk of this happening is to enlist the help of a friend or family member. Practicing your lines with someone else who is responsive, rather than delivering the words into the mirror, means you are more used to having an audience and also you will be more flexible in your approach, and hence less deterred by unexpected occurrences.

Although people lead busy lives and may struggle to take the time to provide you with such assistance, there is always someone willing and able to run through your lines. Most people love the chance to get involved in acting, even if only momentarily. You should therefore not feel guilty about your request.

Preparing in this way can make a real difference to your chances of success, so it is well worth trying. And of course, you can also take advantage of our auditions service here at Audition Now. If you do, you will not have to spend so much time finding out when such talent scouting sessions are taking place.

But remember, you must be aged 18 or over to quality for the service (£1.50 per text, maximum of 3 texts per week).

How To Be In a West End Musical

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

Many people only dream of performing in a West End musical, but if you are serious about trying to get into one, here are some tips on how to get ready and how to find the auditions you will need to get in with a chance of appearing on stage.

If you hope to be a singer, you should start with voice lessons. Even if you have been told by many people that you sing very well, chances are you could benefit from lessons. Look into them right away and get started before you ever audition.

It’s also a great idea to take some acting classes. If you want to just be a speaking part, or if you want to both sing and act in a musical, you will find that acting classes give you the confidence and speaking skills you will need. You’ll also be more prepared for an audition this way.

You may also want to get in shape. While people of all shape and sizes are needed in musicals, you may find that being in good health and exercising regularly will help you get a part. If you need to dance in a musical, you’ll need to be active and in good shape. You may also want to get used to standing up for long hours at a time.

If you want to find some open acting auditions and auditions for West End musicals, try Audition Now. Sign up to receive up to three texts per week (at £1.50 per text) with audition information related to your area of interest. You must be 18 years old or older.

Being Ready To Shine At Open Auditions

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

Preparation for open acting auditions is all important for aspiring actors hoping to secure their dream roles, regardless of whether these roles are simply bit parts to get a foot on the ladder or starring roles. All roles, regardless of their size or perceived importance, are hotly contested, as, to thousands of people who take part in amateur dramatics up to Oscar-winning stars of the big screen, acting is far more than just a job. It is a passion and a lifestyle.

Whilst acting auditions vary considerably between the two poles, good preparation is a mark of professionalism to both. Actors attending open auditions have generally not yet made their names to the extent that they have agents touting and bargaining on their behalf, or Casting Directors approaching them with specific roles in mind. On the contrary, they may have little or no professional experience and be desperate for opportunities to get their talent noticed to ultimately lead to even the smallest role in any production.

With open auditions, candidates might be provided with lines or scenarios in advance, for which rehearsal and getting themselves in the right mindset can be a make or break situation. They may be asked to improvise on the spot.

At Audition Now, we aim to not only take the stress out of finding out about open auditions, but to give actors optimum advanced notice to maximise their preparation time. Our acting text alerts provide this service, and you can get a maximum of 3 texts every week using our service for just £4.50.

Alerts for Open Acting Auditions and More

Friday, November 5th, 2010

Show business professions – such as being a model, a TV actor, or a stage actor – can be fiercely competitive, as anybody in the business, or trying to get into it, already knows. With such tough competition, with every hopeful going for the same, widely-advertised jobs, an inside scoop would often make a large difference to those trying to catch a break.

Audition Now run an invaluable service using their industry researchers and internal contacts to alert you via text about upcoming audition opportunities. Instead of spending hours searching for extras auditions online and in the papers, the knowledge is delivered straight to your phone for just £1.50 per text (with a maximum of 3 texts sent each week). Your time can be spent practising emotion memory or your poses if you are interested in fashion modelling instead of searching for audition opportunities that if you can find, anybody can find.

Everybody in the business started off small, and open acting auditions have launched many young stars into the spotlight, so if you think you have what it takes and you are over 18 years of age, why not sign up for this service? You can specify which area of show business you are keen to work in, allowing us to ensure that no texts about modelling work reach somebody interested in theatre work and that you do not pay for irrelevant information.

This service can open the doors for unknowns, and provide them with the chances to start establishing a name on their circuit of choice.

The Whys And Wherefores Of Acting Auditions

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Acting auditions are traditionally nerve-wracking experiences for actors: they shouldn’t be, and they won’t be for you, if you are clear about what you are doing.

If you go to open acting auditions, you may be expected to offer two pieces to recite (from memory). Why two? So that your audition panel can see you in contrasting modes. If you are set a piece of text or script to read – the ‘cold’ reading – then you may be offered the chance to read it again. Why? Because it is a way that people can see how imaginative you can be with the text in front of you. This means that you must train yourself to analyse critically a piece of script, and to think imaginatively about the characterisation.

There is no mystique to this. When an actor, discussing his character, asked, ‘What’s my motivation?’ Hitchcock famously replied, ‘Your salary’. You have a technical gift as an actor, which is to realise the person in the words on the page. It is like your other technical accomplishments (how you work your voice or your body), but it is just that: technical. Keep hold of that, and many of the terrors of acting auditions simply evaporate.

Another tip: turn up early to audition. Why? Because it’s a practical way of keeping you calm and helping you give of your best.

Here at Audition Now we help you by texting the latest audition opportunities direct to your mobile phone.

Extras Acting Work

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Film and television companies are often holding open acting auditions for extras. This can be interesting and relatively well-paid work, but you have to accept that it may involve you in doing very little actual acting.

Very often, particular scenes or shots need a suggestion of normal life going on in them, and extras provide that. Unless you have had some previous experience, it is unlikely that you will be asked to say any lines. Usually, in fact, you will be expected to do nothing that stands out. Skilled extras, however, can very successfully complement the action of a scene by behaving naturally and imaginatively in the character of the people they are portraying.

There are some rules for how to behave ‘off-camera’. For example, it is usual to respect the main performers, and to defer to them in public situations such as during meal breaks. You must also follow instructions, and avoid getting in the way of other people’s work: the set is a busy place, and everyone is on a tight schedule.

Many people take part in extras auditions as a regular source of extra income, but some are trying it out for the first time. Here at Audition Now, we provide a comprehensive information service on the latest upcoming casting calls and auditions for extras in the film and television world. We can keep you posted directly to your mobile phone, so that you know where and when the next work opportunities may be coming your way.
